On March 23, 2006 the Office of the State Attorney General in New York brought suit against the company for privacy violations in its alleged sale of personal information gathered on its internet site.
The suit seeks an Order and Judgement permanently enjoining the respondents from further acts and practices identified in the suit, directing record keeping of privacy issues, and a monetary judgement.

Consumers report questions arising from solicitations received from the company offering merchandise for sale that can be used to "earn" other merchandise. The company enforces its rule that only one account can be established for use in transactions, and checks for more than one user at an e-mail or physical address. The company provides contact information to its advertisers based on those participating in its freeDVDs.com web site or free ipods promotions. As in all transactions, consumers should read any terms and conditions about transactions and offers and restrictions before signing up to participate.
The company discussed its complaint activity as reported in this report several times with the Bureau, indicating an intent to correct problems and providing its position on its marketing strategies. The company also indicated that fulfillment problems were a temporary condition due to supplier shortages.
